There are several types of affiliate marketing websites such as directories, comparison shopping websites, cashback, coupons or sales promotions, blogs and more. Content depends on the type of website. The best way to start is to pick a niche market, for example chiuaua. Use Google Trends or Google Insight, check how many people search for certain products or things, what countries are they from and what is the competition. Once you pick a target market based on this research, you can start building you website.

You can create your website with WordPress or HTML. WordPress is better optimised for SEO, have lot of plugins that help you to promote your website and various themes to choose from. However, once you want to use it for commercial purposes, you have to get hosting somewhere else. Make sure you keep up with security plugins to stay safe. HTML might be better for static pages, but you have to code it and code all plugins as well. HTML is also leaner and takes less server space and much more difficult to hack. Get a good hosting, domain and email addresses.

Promote your affiliate marketing website for free on forums and groups at LinkedIn, Facebook, Quora, Yahoo Answers, O\’Reilly Media Answers and other social media. Get your website listed in as many directories as possible. The more websites link to your website, the higher ranking in search engines you get. If you have a good SEO and did your research really well and there is not enough competition when people from your target audience search for certain words, the chances are Google will generate a lot of traffic –  for free. Don\’t forget to sign up for Google Analytics to see where your traffic comes from.

Last and the most important step is the income. Once you have a website and a way to promote it, it\’s time to place ads on it. Go for well known Google Ads, Amazon affiliate program or iTunes affiliate or simply look at the affiliate program directories and pick those related to your target market. Check what affiliates are working and which not and change them from time to time. You should also pay attention to the looks. Mix text ads with banners, but make sure the website still looks nice and professional. Check for broken links regularly, analyze where does your traffic come from  add content and keep earning money.
